A: The Walker Bay Genesis uses a short shaft (15”).
Q: What are the differences between the Light and Deluxe versions?
A: The biggest differences lie in features and weight.
The Deluxe model boasts innovative integrated storage, cup holders and removable storage tray as well as additional seating in the bow. Other features include a custom 2-tone tube design and heavy-duty rub rail/splash guard.
The Light version is approximately 20% lighter. Functionally, the light version has a slimmer rub rail across the whole boat, fuel tank recess in bow, lighter oars, and minor changes in trim to aid weight savings.
Q: How should the boat be stored in winter?
A: It is best to store your boat indoors. If you don’t have room in your garage you may want to check out the Harken Hoister system: http://www.hoister.com. If storing your Genesis outside, please make sure the tubes are deflated and that you store your Genesis in the storage bag that is available from Walker Bay. NOTE: rodents are known to nest in boats in winter, chewing on the tubes and nesting inside them. Also in below freezing temperatures, the Genesis Hull can freeze, which is fine so long as nothing impacts the hull during those cold times.
Q: What is the kayak material?
A: The Walker Bay Airis is composed of U.V. treated, multi-layer PVC fabric.
Q: How do they handle?
A: Extremely well. Our kayaks follow the “sit on top” style, popularized within the last 20 years. Compared to a sit-in kayak of the same size, our kayaks offer a wider beam and a deeper draft, which translates to greater stability. Our models are also designed with a functional rear skeg, which trims the boat, as well as aids in tracking.
Q: What is the PSI for inflation?
A: The main chamber and the seat chamber are both 6.5 PSI. We have designed the kayak such that once it is “rigid,” it is at the correct PSI.
Q: What type of boat is the Rigid Dinghy?
A: The Walker Bay Rigid Dinghy, available in 8ft or 10ft, is a one-piece (monohull) boat and features a lapstrake hull design, which is excellent for rowing, sailing and motoring at harbor speeds.
Q: I have left my boat in storage for the winter, and it is off center. How do I fix this?
A: Our boats are injection molded, and will always return to the factory shape after being left in the sun.
Q: What are these boats made of?
A: Rigid Dinghies are formed from a polypropylene composite resin in a high-pressure injection molding process. This creates a seamless, durable hull that is impact resistant and UV protected.
Q: I have damaged my boat, how would I fix it?
A: It is very unlikely that you will damage your Walker Bay Rigid Dinghy. However, if this occurs, you can contact your local auto-body shop and get a quote for “bumper repair” as the boat can be repaired by them in this manner.
